The Joe Serna Jr. Charter School Cooking Club, as part of “Chefs Move to Schools" movement is preparing an English/Spanish bilingual health workshop for the community. We are expecting between 200-250 people to attend this event on Friday, May 11, 2012, at the school located on the corner of Central Avenue and Pine Street in Lodi.
This will be our second year providing information and resources to our community about “Childhood Obesity”. Our focus this year to create awareness and provide behavorial strategies to the parents , child, tween and teens to fight this epidemic in our county.
These are the list of topics would be covering that day:
* Childhood obesity -- contributing factors; our reality; what is the solution
* Fighting childhood obesity -- parent involment; role model; sterotypes
* Behavioral changes -- eat right; exercises more; sleep better
* Self Esteem -- height, weight & body shape; eating disorders
We have partnered with Practical Cousenling and Educational Services, Inc., pediatrician from our community to provide this workshop. In addition, the Greater Stockton Emergency Food Bank will be supportting our efforts, too.
